LSAT

The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) to candidates for law school admission. Law schools in the United States, Canada, and countries around the world use the LSAT as part of their admissions process to gauge the skills and potential of applicants.

The LSAT is offered throughout the year. Candidates may take the LSAT up to three times in any rolling two-year period.

Taking the LSAT (including the Writing Sample) costs $200. However, additional fees are required to send your scores to law schools. Check here for details and additional pricing packages.

The LSAT tests three topics: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, and reading comprehension. All questions are multiple choice, with five answer choices.

Candidates may also choose to sit for the Writing Sample the same day or eight days prior (see below). LSAT scores will not be released until the Writing Sample is completed.

There are four sections on the LSAT. You will have 35 minutes for each section. 

Reading Comprehension: 26 - 28 questions

Logical Reasoning 1: 24 - 26 questions

Analytical Reasoning: 23 - 24 questions

Experimental Section (unscored): 24 - 26 questions

For examinees who take the optional writing sample on the same day, the test takes about three hours, not including breaks. Examinees receive a short, ten-minute break after the second section.

The LSAT is administered digitally. There are no paper answer sheets; test takers tap their answer choice on the screen.

The number of questions answered correctly comprises the raw score. That number is then converted to a scaled score ranging from 120 to 180. The highest possible score is 180. Test takers who take a disclosed test will receive a score report and be able to determine which questions were answered incorrectly.

A disclosed test is released to test takers after it is administered. Disclosed tests allow examinees to see exactly which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly, reviewing their scores in depth.

Test takers who take a disclosed LSAT will receive, in addition to their scores, their score band, percentile rank, a copy of the answer sheet, and a copy of the scored sections to analyze their results.

While the LSAT is administered several times throughout the year, only three tests per year are disclosed. Disclosed tests are never re-administered.

For nondisclosed tests, examinees will only receive their score and percentile rank. They will not receive a copy of the test, nor will they receive a list of which questions were answered incorrectly.

You will need to sign up for LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service to submit your transcripts and letters of recommendation. This includes an additional fee.
